The available space within the existing department’s academic bungalow building is limited and has become grossly insufficient for an effective and functional running of the department while the clusters around it outside will not also allow any meaningful or useful horizontal (or lateral) expansion hence, a proposed vertical development of a new department building (i.e storey building) on the same plan space. The existing department’s bungalow building was to be demolished & rubbles carted away to pave way for construction of the proposed department’s building. The location of the proposed building project is CMUL Idi-Araba, Surulere Local Government Area, Lagos, Nigeria.

The proposed 3-floor state-of-the-heart contemporary building is adequate to wholly house the six identified units of the department according to operational structure. The building accommodates a laboratory, reception, 17 large size offices, 2 medium size offices, an extra large size office, a treatment room, a gymnasium, a library, 2 medium lecture rooms, a large lecture room and a conference/multipurpose hall. The ancillary facilities to the main building are power generator / house, parking, water supply headwork.

The responsibility of Precision Technologies Consultants Limited (PTCL) was to carry out architectural, civil-structural and electro-mechanical designs of the building and supervise / manage construction works. The College of Medicine University of Lagos engaged PTCL for the consultancy services in March 2014. The construction work commenced in February 2015 and is on-going.
