Project Information

The project is all about the resuscitation of the defunct Lagos Island Municipal Transportation in Lagos State of Nigeria. The scheme focused on the three following routes: Obalende-Simpson-Adeniji-Ebute-Ero @ Police Post (3.8km long); Obalende-Tinubu-Idumota (3.7km long); Costain-Oyingbo-Idumota-CMS Marina-Victoria Island @ Eko Hotel / Ademola Adetokunbo Roundabout (12.4km long). The required infrastructural facilities being provided for the scheme are 6no Bus Terminals, 20no Bus Stations, Traffic Systems Management (TSM) Measures, 2no Bus Depots @ Apogbon / Savage & Oja Oba areas and procurement of high capacity buses. Some of the existing situations addressed were: gridlocks at junctions due to collapsed road & culverts; absence of traffic lights, marked lanes, street lights & vertical signages; human & vehicular traffic congestions caused by on-street / road parking of tricycles, taxis & commercial mini-buses, illegal u-turns, street hawking & failed pavements; and lack of enforcement.

The two depots @ Apogbon & Oja-Oba which are to serve as operating bases for the Lagos Island Municipal Transport Scheme which runs on the three corridors were solely designed by Precision Technologies Consultants Limited (PTCL) Lagos Nigeria in 2010 and 2012. The Lagos State Government through Lagos Island Local Government & Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) engaged Planet Project Limited (PPL) Lagos, Nigeria in 2010 to undertake the feasibility studies, planning & detailed design of the transport scheme who in turn engaged Precision Technologies Consultants Limited (PTCL) for the depots planning, design & quantity / cost works. The bus station and terminal designs were also jointly done by PPL & PTCL. The construction work which commenced in late 2012 is still ongoing in phases.

The biggest & most sensitive facility of the scheme is the 90-coaster bus-capacity bus depot at Apogbon area cited on total site area of 0.4 hectare and 50-coaster bus-capacity bus depot cited on 0.2 hectare proposed at Oja-Oba handled by PTCL in the detailed design areas of architecture, civil-structure & foundation engineering, electrical & mechanical engineering, and quantity surveying / costing. Each depot provides parking accommodation, servicing & maintenance facilities for vehicles, washing facility, an administrative function, and facilities for staff. The components of the depot are two-storey operation building / workshop combined, masonry perifence, access road, water supply headwork, gate / security house, public convenience, crew building, bus park pavement structure, staff / visitors parking, stormwater drainage network and horticulture. With this scheme, organized lifestyle transport-wise is back in Lagos Central Senatorial District of Lagos State, Nigeria.
