As part of the Transport Master Plan of Lagos metropolis, the planning, engineering designs and construction of 10km long Iyana Ipaja - Ikotun and 14km long Iyana Ipaja - Igando bus corridor was implemented from 2006 to 2009 by Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) through Lagos Urban Transport Programme (LUTP) funded by World Bank. LAMATA commissioned Integrated Transport Planning (ITP) Limited of Keynes, United Kingdom, IBIS Consultants, United Kingdom and AIM Consultants Limited Lagos, Nigeria to plan the transport system and infrastructure requirements for the Pilot Bus Franchise Scheme on the twin corridor respectively. The infrastructure for the scheme included: major & minor intersections, 76no Bus Stations, 3no Bus Terminals, Numerous Street Lights, Traffic system, 1no Bus Depot / Garage and 3no Power Sub-stations.

LAMATA commissioned Precision Technologies Consultants Limited (PTCL) Lagos, Nigeria in a World Bank - financed consultancy service contract to carry out the “Detailed Engineering Design & Construction Supervision / Management of the High Capacity Bus Depot / Garage at Ikotun” and “Supervision of Intersections & Street Lights Installation on Iyana Ipaja - Ikotun Corridor”. The two & half hectares depot / garage is to serve as the scheme’s transport undertaking’s operating base and to accommodate about 150no high capacity buses and other numerous components such as operation building, canteen, clinic, security houses, large fuel dump, auto workshop, sanitary / changing & mess building, parking pavement, public convenience, water headwork, plant house, filling / service station, wash bay, power substation and masonry perimeter fence. The pilot scheme is a modern public transport system designed to operate at a reasonable cost to the users and yet profitable to the operators using quality high capacity buses which meet international service standards, environmentally friendly, operating on priority (non-exclusive) lanes, at reduced travelling time. The system moves about 288,000 passengers (pax) per week-day on the twin corridor and total of 18,000 pax per hour at its busiest sections.
